Episode I - How I came to learn the truth about AUKUS, Palantir, and US foreign interference in Australia

Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Back in Donald Trump’s first term, the phrase ‘strategic competition’ was popularized to described a supposedly safer way for the United States and China to interact, as the world’s two dominant superpowers. Perhaps most famously, this strategic competition has included an ongoing trade war between the United States and China, which Australia and a majority of other countries have tried to limit their involvement in.

Then in 2021, the United Kingdom and Australia signed up for the AUKUS security partnership with the United States, with a stated intention of promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific that is secure and stable.

AUKUS has two pillars. Pillar 1 concerns the delivery of nuclear submarines for Australia with subsequent joint construction of additional submarines in partnership with the United Kingdom. Pillar 2 involves advanced capabilities including undersea capabilities, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, advanced cyber capabilities, electronic warfare, hyper-sonic and counter hyper-sonic capabilities.

Media outlets and political figures have repeatedly played down the progress on AUKUS Pillar 2. However, I believe this has been an attempt to misdirect the public, and the Chinese Government, from highly advanced capabilities that are already being secretly deployed and utilized on Australian soil without the public’s knowledge.

I content that the ‘strategic competition’ entered into by the United States and China has escalated into a broader clandestine conflict that now resembles a second cold war. I believe that this secret conflict has needlessly involved the loss of American, Chinese, and Australian lives when other – more peaceful paths – were available that would accrue greater benefit to all three nations and the wider world.

Most concerning in respect of Australia, I believe that the AUKUS project (and particularly AUKUS Pillar 2) has involved the sacrifice of a significant amount of sovereignty to the United States government and United States defense contractors, for example Palantir Technologies Inc. I believe new forms of mass surveillance have been deployed on Australian citizens by utilizing nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and quantum technologies associated with AUKUS Pillar 2 without the Australian public's consent. Unfortunately, I believe the information gathered on Australians is not kept solely within Australia, but instead is being collected by and/or shared with the United States Government and United States defense contractors, and then likely used for other political and geopolitical purposes that may not always be in Australia's national interest.

This surveillance program may have started off with good intent. There are – no doubt - individuals working on behalf of China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) in Australia. It is possible, or even likely, that the Chinese Government posses highly advanced surveillance capabilities that rival America’s own. It is also possible that the Chinese Government has been involved in the death of Australians if a broader clandestine conflict is indeed occurring. However, we should reserve any judgement until we can gain a more complete picture as to what has occurred and particularly any underlying drivers and ongoing provocation coming from the United States.
